Tyler Tomassi began his NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series career at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park on July 19, 2024. Driving the No. 22 Levrack Ford for Reaume Brothers Racing, he entered the TSport 200 for an important step in his progression from regional late model racing and ARCA competition to one of NASCAR’s national touring divisions.

Tomassi completed 197 of the scheduled 200 laps and finished 31st. The result provided a full race-distance introduction to the Truck Series and established a foundation for future starts at some of NASCAR’s most demanding venues.

A Major Career Milestone

The IRP event represented Tomassi’s first start in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. At 21 years old, the West Greenwich, Rhode Island, driver entered a competitive national field in the No. 22 Levrack Ford for Reaume Brothers Racing after building experience in the ACT Late Model Tour, PASS North Super Late Model Series, Granite State Pro Stock Series, and ARCA Menards Series.

The move to the Truck Series expanded Tomassi’s racing schedule and placed him on a larger stage. It also gave him the opportunity to compete at a short oval known for its narrow racing groove, quick transitions, and limited margin for error.

Tomassi’s earlier ARCA starts at IRP and Milwaukee had already provided experience with heavier stock cars and national-series competition. The Truck Series debut added another level of speed, race length, pit-road activity, and competition.

Qualifying At IRP

Tomassi posted a qualifying lap of 23.770 seconds at an average speed of 103.896 mph. That effort placed the No. 22 Levrack Ford of Reaume Brothers Racing 31st on the starting grid for his first Truck Series race.

Starting near the back of the field created a practical challenge. Tomassi had to manage the opening laps while learning the handling characteristics of a Truck Series vehicle in traffic. At IRP, drivers must balance corner entry speed with throttle control through the center of the turn, particularly when the racing surface becomes more difficult to navigate.

The qualifying result gave Tomassi a clear race objective: maintain a consistent pace, protect the equipment, and gain as much experience as possible over the 200-lap distance.

Managing The Opening Stages

The TSport 200 featured two scheduled stage breaks and several caution periods. The first caution occurred on lap 44 after an incident involving another competitor. The race then reached its first stage conclusion on lap 62.

A second incident brought out caution on lap 87, followed by the end of Stage 2 on lap 122. These interruptions created multiple restarts and changed the rhythm of the event. For a series debut, each restart provided additional experience with the Truck Series field, tire management, and short-track positioning.

Tomassi remained in the event through these changes. He was not listed among the stage-point scorers, but he continued to complete laps and keep the vehicle in competition.

A Clean Finish

Tomassi finished 31st after completing 197 laps in the No. 22 Levrack Ford for Reaume Brothers Racing. He was listed as running at the checkered flag and completed the race without a recorded retirement or major mechanical failure.

The final margin was three laps. While the result did not place Tomassi near the front of the field, finishing the debut while still running was an important part of the learning process. He gained experience with race pace, long-run handling, restarts, caution procedures, and the demands of a national Truck Series event.

Tomassi earned six championship points from the race. More significantly, the debut gave him a complete weekend of Truck Series data and firsthand knowledge that could support his development at future tracks.

The Race Environment

IRP is a compact 0.686-mile oval located in Brownsburg, Indiana. The track’s short layout produces close racing and frequent changes in track position. Drivers must make precise adjustments because small handling differences can affect corner exit speed and lap-time consistency.

The 2024 race included four lead changes and was ultimately decided during the closing portion of the event. Ty Majeski took the lead with 56 laps remaining and secured the victory by 4.129 seconds.

For Tomassi, the race offered a direct comparison with experienced Truck Series competitors. Every green-flag run required him to adapt to the pace of the field while preserving tires and maintaining control in traffic.

Building From Regional Racing

Tomassi’s national-series journey began after several seasons of competition in New England. His early racing experience included late model events at tracks such as Seekonk Speedway, where he developed the fundamentals required for short-track competition.

In 2024, he expanded his schedule with select CARS Tour events and ARCA Menards Series starts. The IRP Truck Series debut followed that progression and placed him in a longer, faster, and more nationally visible competition environment.

The result also reinforced a pattern that continued through later starts: Tomassi was gaining experience by competing at a variety of tracks rather than remaining limited to one type of circuit. His schedule would later include Bristol Motor Speedway, North Wilkesboro Speedway, Nashville Superspeedway, Pocono Raceway, New Hampshire Motor Speedway, the Charlotte Roval, and Talladega Superspeedway.

What The Debut Established

The IRP race established several useful points in Tomassi’s career record:

  • First NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series start in the No. 22 Levrack Ford for Reaume Brothers Racing
  • 31st-place qualifying effort
  • 31st-place race finish
  • 197 laps completed out of 200
  • Running at the finish
  • Six championship points earned
  • Experience across all scheduled race stages and restart periods

These details provide a clear view of the performance. Tomassi entered the event as a Truck Series newcomer, completed nearly the full distance, and finished with the vehicle still in competition.

The debut was not defined by a single dramatic incident or a late-race charge. It was defined by participation, consistency, and the opportunity to learn at the national level.

The Next Step

Tomassi’s Truck Series debut at IRP became the first entry in a growing national racing resume. He returned to the series for additional starts and continued to compete at tracks with different layouts, surfaces, and race demands.

His later Truck Series results included a career-best 21st-place finish at Bristol in 2025. That improvement reflected the value of continued seat time and the experience gained from earlier races such as IRP.

Tomassi also expanded into the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series and continued to build experience across national touring divisions. Each event added more information about racecraft, vehicle feedback, pit-road procedures, and the physical demands of professional stock-car racing.
